Hello @first-name,

VBS is coming at us like a freight train!!

SPOTLIGHT: 9am ASL Kids Program

Starting September 13th

A smaller, slower-paced Sunday School environment where kids can learn about Jesus through ASL, visual communication, hands-on activities, and engaging visual resources.
This class is designed for kids who benefit from a smaller group, a slower pace, or alternative ways of receiving and communicating information. You do not need to be Deaf or know ASL to participate!
This class will meet in the Kids Aurora Room during the 9am service. This group will learn the same lesson as the main Kids program.

Lesson Recap

Sunday Lesson - Joseph & The Forgiveness of His Brothers

Memory Verse - Romans 8:28 CSB "We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose."

Bonus Nugget: Did you know that Joseph forgiving his brothers led for them all to move to Egypt? This fulfilled the promise given to Abraham in Genesis 15:13 AND it led to their eventual slavery and when God called them out of Egypt, He instituted the Passover which is a foreshadowing of Jesus... way back in Exodus. This is how God was working for the good of the Israelites through the events of Joseph's slavery.

Related At Home Activity - Watch the "Joseph" movie for kids. You can access it here, at no cost. If you do not have a login for RightNow Media, please click here to get one at no cost to you.

Kids Connect Wednesday Lesson - We talked about the Trinity: God the Father (with the plan), Jesus the Son (the sacrifice), and the Holy Spirit (the teacher/counselor). We talked about how each person is God, but does not have the same role as another person and how together the three persons are one God. It's a very hard, but valuable lesson, for our kids to grasp!

Disciple Making Moment

Help your child look for God at work.

Joseph experienced some really hard things, but God was working through his circumstances in ways he couldn't understand. This week, ask your child: “What is something hard or disappointing happening right now? How could God be working even if we can't see it yet?”

Then pray together: “God, help us trust You when we don't understand what You're doing. Help us believe that You are working for our good and Your purposes. Amen.”

Bonus: If there's a conflict between siblings this week, use Joseph's story as an opportunity to talk about forgiveness: “What would it look like to forgive someone even when they don't deserve it?”

Behind the Scenes

Why we don't tell the whole story on Sunday

Working with our curriculum team to write the story of Joseph for our Sunday lessons reminded us of something important: what we teach on Sunday is supplemental to God's Word—not a replacement for it.

Did you know we write our own curriculum? It has been such a blessing to our teachers and kids because it allows us to focus on what we believe God is teaching our kids right now.

But there's no way we can walk through the Bible in a year and cover every major detail of every major story. Even though we spent several weeks studying Joseph, we couldn't tell every part of his story!

Our goal isn't for our Sunday lesson to become "the Bible" for your child. Our goal is to point them to the Bible, help them understand God's big story, and show them how each story fits into His plan.

That's where you come in! 💛

Your kids have years to grow in God's Word. A three-year-old doesn't need to know every detail of Joseph's story. But as they hear it at church, read it at home, hear it again as they get older, and encounter it in different places, those pieces begin to build.

Our hope is that by the time your child is an adult, they've heard God's stories so many times—from you and from us—that they don't just know the stories, but they know the God who wrote them.

Church + home + God's Word = a lifetime of knowing Jesus.
